Drei Tomaten und zwei Kartoffeln (Three tomatoes and two potatoes)
• Wir sagen „Plural“, wenn wir von zwei oder mehr Personen oder Sachen sprechen
• Wir sagen „Singular“, wenn wir von einer Person oder Sache sprechen.
| Plural = zwei oder mehrere Sachen (mehrere Male) | Ich kaufe zwei Bananen und vier Äpfel. |
| Singular = eine Person oder Sache (nur einmal) | Ich kaufe eine Banane und einen Apfel. |
• Der Artikel ist bei allen Nomen im Plural gleich: die
Beispiel / Example:
| der Mann | die Männer |
| die Frau | die Frauen |
| das Kind | die Kinder |
![]() | Aufgepasst liebe Deutschlernende! Im Plural haben die Nomen bestimmte Endungen. Es gibt keine klaren Regeln dafür. In the plural the nouns have certain endings. There are no clear rules for the endings. |
• We say plural when we speak of two or more people or things.
• We say singular when we speak of one person or a thing.
Plural = two or more things (several times)
I’m buying two bananas and four apples.
Singular = one person or thing (only once)
I buy one banana and one apple.
• The article is the same for all nouns in the plural: die
| The man | the men |
| The woman | the women |
| The child | the children |
The plural form is not the same for all nouns. For example, in banana the ending -n is added, in applel there is no ending, but a change of the vowel from a to ä.
We can distinguish 5 different plural types:
| Ending | Example |
| _ | the cups |
| -e | the nets |
| -er | the eggs |
| -n | the cans |
| -en | the packages |
| -e | the cars |
But when do we write the plural form with -e or with -s? or with -en?
The picture gives you an overview. Have fun!

Zusätzlich zu den 5 Typen von Endungen verändert sich bei einigen Nomen im Plural auch der Vokal im Wort:
